The hardware works.
Now it has to sell.

Smart Swine is three engineers, a farm-validated prototype and a room full of producers who have not heard of us yet. Nobody here wakes up thinking about the customer full time. That is the two roles on this page, and they are the next two people we hire.

WHAT YOU WOULD BE JOINING

Early, funded, and past the demo stage

Piglets are crushed by their mothers in the first days of life, in numbers every producer accepts because nobody can watch every crate all night. We build the camera that watches. The sensing has been through a working farrowing room, the models run on that footage, and the case study on this site is the unedited output rather than a mockup. What is missing is a commercial side.

~$1Mnon-dilutive NSF & USDA-NIFA support, so the runway is not a countdown to a raise
27 / 531semifinalist, AI Venture Velocity Challenge, 531 teams across 160 universities
2products in flight, a crate-mounted monitor and the curtain that acts on it
3 + 3a three-discipline founding team with three academic and business advisors

If you want to know whether the technology is real before you read a job description, that is a fair instinct. The case study is the whole answer, in trial footage.

OPEN ROLES

Two people who live on the producer side

Both roles are full time and based in College Station, Texas, with hybrid working we can talk about. Both of them involve barns.

OPEN ROLE · FULL TIME · COLLEGE STATION, TX

Director of Marketing

You own how this company is understood by people who do not buy technology. Producers buy fewer dead piglets, a shorter night and a number they can put in front of whoever signs. The engineering is done in depth sensors and detection classes, and somebody has to carry that across without either dumbing it down or dressing it up. This is a founding marketing role, so it is strategy and the actual work in the same week.

WHAT YOU WOULD OWN

  • Positioning, message and the story a producer repeats to their herd manager
  • Demand: trade press, pork industry organizations, producer events and the shows where this audience actually is
  • Turning trial evidence into material a salesperson can hand over
  • The trial and referral programs as a funnel rather than a promotion
  • This site, the brand and everything that carries the name

This fits somebody who has marketed a physical product into agriculture, animal health or another trade where the buyer is on their feet all day, and who is comfortable being the only marketer in the building for a while.

Sales

You turn free trials into paying rooms. The trial program puts a prototype on a crate at no cost, which means the top of the funnel already exists and the job is everything after it: being in the barn when the unit goes on, being on the phone when the batch weans, and knowing what has to be true before this producer will pay for the next twenty. You will be the first person in the company whose week is measured that way.

WHAT YOU WOULD OWN

  • The pipeline from trial request through to a paid installation
  • Territory work in pork country, on farm, not over email
  • Reading how a given operation actually buys, from a family unit to an integrator
  • Pricing conversations, and what a unit has to save to justify itself
  • Carrying what you hear in the barn back to the people building the thing

This fits somebody who has sold equipment, genetics, feed or animal health into swine or another livestock sector, who is not put off by a prototype, and who would rather open a territory than inherit one.

BEFORE YOU WRITE IN

What this is, and what it is not

You are going to find this out in the first conversation anyway, so here it is on the page instead.

What you get

A product that has already been through a barn rather than a deck promising one. Grant funding that is not equity, which means the company is not being run to a raise. A founding seat on the commercial side, where the first playbook is the one you write. Direct work with the three people building the hardware, the vision models and the animal science, with no layer in between. And a market where the problem is measured in animals that die every single farrowing, which is not a problem anyone has to be talked into caring about.

What you do not get

A category that exists yet. A brand producers already know. A marketing budget with a comma in it, or a team under you on day one. Clean handoffs, because there is nobody to hand off to. If your last role worked because of the machine around it, this will feel like starting outdoors. Both of these roles are the machine.

Write to a founder, not a portal.

There is no application system. Mail goes to Steven, who answers it himself. Tell us which role, what you have sold or marketed before, and what made you open this page. A CV is welcome and a link to whatever you are proudest of is better. If neither role is quite you but the problem is, say so anyway.
